As planned before, we have spent the weekend around the 19th of February with the street children and the potential staff in Nargakot. The weekend was a great success, which was characterized by a pleasant group atmosphere and motivated staff and children. After the weekend the kids moved with the staff into their new home in Naikap.
The first days were very exciting for all involved.
The children could hardly believe that they have now the opportunity to make the house in Naikap to their own one. After the arrival in the House a diligent discussion about the “who is sharing a room with who” question started. Hours later when the kids had sorted this issue out, they explored the environment around the house together. The first days in the house were mainly filled with sport, art and craft activities. Furthermore many group and individual conversations between the staff and the kids, about the chance through which the kids went and have to go, took place. Because of the withdrawal through which the children had to go through and the extreme chance from the life at the street to the life in the living community it was for some children a little hard to participate continuously in all the activities. However, for us it was only important that no children split off from the group and thus the one or the other child took with our endorsement a break in between and watched in this time just the activities or took a nap.
After more than three weeks in the living community, which means in the same time three weeks for the children without glue, it is possible to say that the kids are “clean”. Furthermore in this time all children could regain their strength and recover through healthy food, physical and mental activities and time for rest. In addition, a health check through which every child had to go showed to our great relief that no child has serious health problems.
The general mood in the house is almost all the time very positive, and every one is supporting each other in a lot of respects very well. We are very thankful to say, that the relationship between the children and our Nepalese staff is growing permanently and even now after such a short time the relationship is stable and in a healthy way characterized by trust and respect. In order to support the talents and interests of every single child in an individual and adequately way we gave the children the chance to choose different activities which they would like to do. The result of this is that on Tuesday and Thursday a break-dance teacher, on Monday and Wednesday a guitar teacher and on Fridays a yoga teacher is coming to teach the kids in the different activities. In addition, we have begun together to paint the house from the inside, which was a great fun for everyone.
In order to give the children from the beginning on a regulated structure, we decided at our last team meeting that every child should, in according to his interests and talents be placed to an internship or a school as soon as possible. The interests of the children are very different and this shows again how important it is to work individually and to search for each single child for the best education opportunity. In between one or two weeks the children will start with the internship or the school. We are aware of the fact that it can be very unhealthy and the wrong approach to expect and to demand too much from the kids in the beginning. To prevent this, the kids will attend the school or the internship just a few days in a week for a few hours.
Despite the opening of the assisted living community, we are trying to continue our street work with the kids who are still at the street.
In order to help and support even more children in Nepal and to open another assisted living community, we need more support from all over the world.
Every cent you donate is going 100% to the children in Nepal and enables them to live a human life full of opportunities.
